What Apple announced

Apple introduced iPhone 18 Pro in September 2026 alongside the Pro Max, calling it the most advanced Pro camera system in an iPhone with a large step in performance and battery life. It arrives in four finishes, black, silver, glacier and burgundy, and ships with iOS 27. Availability began in September, shortly after the announcement.

The 48MP camera with variable aperture

The headline change is the 48MP Fusion main camera, which now has a variable aperture. Instead of one fixed opening, the lens can adjust how much light reaches the sensor, which changes depth of field and gives more control over how much of the frame stays sharp. Apple pairs it with new Pro controls in the Camera app, so settings can be arranged around how you actually shoot rather than around defaults.

A20 Pro and sustained performance

Inside is the A20 Pro chip, combined with a next generation vapor chamber. Apple frames the pairing as the highest sustained performance in iPhone history, which matters less for a single quick task and more for long sessions: recording video, exporting, gaming, or running heavy apps without the device throttling. The Dynamic Island is also smaller and more useful on both Pro models this year.

Apple Intelligence and Siri AI

iPhone 18 Pro runs the next generation of Apple Intelligence. In September 2026 Apple released Siri AI, a rebuilt version of Siri with personal context understanding across messages, email and photos, onscreen awareness and more systemwide app actions. It began rolling out in English as a beta, with more languages including Portuguese following later. Live Translation and the redesigned Health app connect the phone to the rest of the lineup.
